To get the beautiful images that you want of your new little one, it is best to photograph them within the first 5-14 days of life. At this time, mom is starting to feel better and your baby is still young enough to be sleepy and “curled up”.
I pencil in the due dates of my clients who are expecting and, once the baby is born, we then finalize our plans and set a time.
My Newborn Sessions are often a bit longer than a typical 1-2 hour session, and we follow the baby’s lead with plenty of time for diaper changes, nursing, cuddling, and anything else your baby needs. I try to keep things relaxed and stress free.
Location is completely up to you, and what you feel most comfortable with. I have a cozy little studio in my home, but I will be more than happy to bring my studio to you, where we can capture images in your baby’s environment.
If you have some favorite swaddling blankets, please feel free to bring them along. Other than that, bare shots are truly best for newborns as they are generally lost in clothing. A well fitting onesie is really the only clothing I’ve seen on newborns that doesn’t look like it’s swallowing them. I also have a variety of diaper covers that are the perfect way to show your baby’s tiny little body without showing too much. Black shirts without much detail are perfect for parents to wear, as they are often the “backdrop” in some of the photos.
As you can tell from my portfolio, I love to capture children and families in a very relaxed manner.
I typically spend between an hour to an hour-and-a-half shooting with time for breaks, snacks, etc. it’s truly like a play date for the children or “hanging out” for older kids- no overwrought posing or cajoling, just very easy-going and stress-free for all involved.
I most often hold Family and Children Sessions in an outdoor location but I love to shoot in the client’s home as well. Keep the location in mind, and coordinate your clothing to the scene accordingly.
As with all other sessions, clothing options are all about you and the style that you love. If you love a more classic, timeless feel, simple clothing is best. Try to avoid loud, bold colors and busy patterns. If the whimsy and fun “urban” style speaks to you, bright colored scarves and tights for the girls along with great patterned shirts for the guys are always fun!
This session is for immediate family only. To make our time together easier on everyone, please be sure your children are fed and alert. Bring along snacks and water bottles or juice boxes if you’d like, and let’s have a fun session together!!!
All sessions include 40-60 beautifully edited images on a DVD in both, color and B&W, as well as a written copyright release. I also include a super fun gift that your family can enjoy later on.
